Junior Prize Giving

MEMBERS have been tracking Bradley Neil’s progress in the professional ranks and the club was delighted to welcome him as guest of honour at the junior section’s annual prizegiving.

It’s remarkable to think that just three years ago Bradley was junior captain at Blairgowrie and is now teeing up on the European Tour, having graduated from the Challenge Tour in recent weeks.

In addition to handing out the trophies, Bradley took part in an entertaining question and answer session with club member and freelance journalist Gordon Bannerman, offering advice to youngsters on how to improve their game and answering their questions on a wide range of subjects.

“It’s been a crazy few years for me. I was delighted to be asked to present the trophies to the club’s juniors and it’s hard to believe it’s just three years since I was junior captain,” said Bradley, whose progress from junior and men’s title winner to Tour pro was mapped out by club pro Charles Dernie.

“If I can do anything to support the young golfers I will do my best. It has been hectic recently but now I have a chance to sit down with my coach Kevin Hale and look back at the year. We will look through the stats and confirm where my strengths and weaknesses were.

“It was mission accomplished and I can reflect on a year which has been among the best of my career so far.”

Club captain Brian Wesencraft and pros Neil Cameron and Sam McLaren were also in attendance at the annual junior section prizegiving.

Cormac Sharpe was Junior Club Champion and Katy Alexander received the Isobel Murray Quaich for Junior Girl Golfer of the Year. The boys Junior Golfer of the Year, Connor Graham, was on holiday.

Junior convener Neil Wilkie said: “We have made a major commitment to youth development and it was fantastic that Bradley made time in his schedule to present the prizes. It was a thrill for the youngsters and amazing to think that just a few years ago he was junior captain here.

“Bradley is a great role model and who knows, one or two may be inspired to follow in his footsteps.”
